My experience with AT&T so far...
Well, as I said here last week, I switched my phone service to AT&T because MCI stopped offering DSL, and there is no other way to get DSL in Houston. After I spent a couple of days trying to get the new DSL working (they said that it would be active on Tuesday November 28th) the support technician told me that it wasn't active yet, that's why it didn't work, and that he'd have them give me a call to let me know when it was scheduled. Okay, not a great start. Two days later, I was trying to connect to my network via dial-up (I'm too guilty to steal my neighbor's wireless) and voila, no dial tone. I called up AT&T from my cellular phone, and they said that another technician would have to come out, and the earliest appointment would be in a week.
So, no phone at all for a week, and no high-speed internet access for three weeks after the promised activation date, at best. I had AT&T service at this house three years ago, so it can't be that complicated to reactivate. And I'm willing to bet that I will have to call them again so that I don't have to pay them for the days with no service. Okay, every time I called I was able to talk to someone fairly quickly, and they did seem to be able to address the problem, but what a freakin' hassle. But if they have one more screw-up, I'm getting ready to write one strongly-worded letter.
