Safety Quiz
At my previous job, safety was a huge effort. We had a couple of weeks of safety training to do every year, including CPR, first aid, and driving safety, as well as job-specific things like hazardous chemicals, fall protection, respirators, electrical safety, excavation safety, etc. We had a monthly safety meeting, and took turns running presenting the monthly safety theme. The theme was usually topical, for example, the one about fireworks was our June meeting in preparation for the Independence Day celebration. The safety department would have all the materials put together for you, including a powerpoint presentation and quiz, all you had to do was read the slides. Well, when I saw the slides for the quiz, they were formatted like this:
What should you do if you catch on fire?
A) Stop, drop and roll
It looked to me like this was a multiple question quiz without the rest of the distractors (incorrect answers), so I wrote some myself. Here they are, you can probably guess that the correct answer in each case is A).
What is the first thing you should do before lighting a firework?
A) Read the warning or caution label and follow all directions
B) Move a few feet away from the gasoline storage tank
C) Step out of your office and into the hallway
D) Pull over to the side of the road while driving
What part of your body should not be over a firework while lighting?
A) No part of your body should be over the firework while lighting.
B) Only the parts that you do not wish to keep
C) Only the non-flammable parts
D) Less critical parts, like your head
What personal protective equipment should be worn while lighting fireworks?
A) Protective eyewear and gloves.
B) Oily rags
C) Paper towels
D) More fireworks
How do you find out if lighting fireworks is legal in your area?
A) Call your local police or fire department.
B) Try it out in front of your local police station or fire department.
C) Get your kids to try it and see if they get arrested
D) Call the police, tell them your neighbor is using fireworks, and see if they get arrested
What should children do to safely handle fireworks?
A) Children should never handle or light fireworks.
B) Children should use the same safety precautions that they use with their cigarettes, matches, and lighters
C) Fireworks are too much fun to be wasted on kids
D) Children can handle and light fireworks, but they should put them down just before they go off
Are sparklers safe?
A) Sparklers can produce heat up to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to melt gold.
B) Sparklers should only be used for gold-melting related tasks
