Working all day. Played poker with some friends last night. I'm afraid that I didn't play "winning poker". Stakes were low, total stake of about $10, and I may have lost $5, after being up around $20.

Omphaloskepsis instead of working, I found some really cool word sites. World Wide Words is an English dude's site, and A.Word.A.Day is this other dude's site, on Wordsmith.org.

Trying to overcome my hebetude. Look it up at Dictionary.com.

Our book club got an email from an author in Victoria, TX, he wrote a book and offered to send us a hardcover copy.

Here's the sig from his email:

Thanks,
Stewrart Branfman

Hard to take an author seriously who misspells his own name in his sig.

Wow, what a great party! It was at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, there was a bar, a band, and a buffet, all right there with the dinosaurs and mummys. We partied there from 7 until about midnight.

Tres haute couture.

Nashville today, giving a presentation about SCC. I didn't write the presentation, but one of the managers asked me to review it because it gives a pretty good overview of what to do when you find SCC.

Back in Houston tonight.

Wow, last night we went to Nit Noi, and ate half the menu. Beef satay, shrimp toast, Tom Ka Gai, Larb Gai, and CRS (crispy red snapper). My eyes were larger than my stomach (if you can believe that).

I could barely walk.

Check out this shareware site: Mike Lin's Home Page. I installed the Startup Control, works great, now I know exactly what software is loading automatically when Window's starts, and where it's starting from.

Another great site is the Google Toolbar which is so extremely cool that it even has a button to create a blog post from the web site that you are viewing. I'm using it now!

I got these sites from the Komando.com Shareware site.

It's a holiday and I intend to celebrate by working at home instead of at the office. Yipee.

My 40th birthday is imminent, and I'm struggling with what to do. On my 30th birthday, I was working in the field, in Rock Hill, NY in the Catskills. We spent the week in a Howard Johnson's motel waiting to get sent home, because the snow was too deep to work.

I've always liked to commemorate big milestones like these alone. I recall that I observed my 18th, 21st and 25th birthdays by myself. I really do not want to have a party, or worse, have someone throw a party for me. Horrors, a suprise party.

Maybe I'll take a little vacation that week, check something off of my life's to-do list.

I went and looked at about a dozen houses today, in the West U/Bellaire/Braeswood areas of town. We didn't see anything that made me and it's possible that I don't have enough money to get the house I want in the location I like. Here is a list of things that I am looking for:
1. 2-3 bedrooms with living room, dining room, breakfast area, and study
2. Safe, quiet residential neighborhood
3. Yard
4. Enough room
5. No major repairs needed (move in)
6. Inside the loop/near the loop
7. Away from highway/railroad
8. Away from major street
9. Single story detached house
10. Open and bright
11. Parking for four vehicles
12. Full size washer and dryer with area for folding
13. Decent closet space (walk-ins a plus)
14. Storage space in garage
15. Work area in garage
16. Gas stove and hot water heater
17. Gas dryer a plus
18. Gas grill a plus
19. Deck or patio
20. No commercial, or condominiums or apartments
21. Easy access to the freeway
22. Hardwood floors
23. Molding
24. Modern plumbing fixtures, retro tile a plus
25. Modern kitchen
26. French doors leading to back yard
27. Fireplace not required
28. Surround sound wiring
29. Attic storage
30. Central heat and air required
31. Concrete driveway

We had our Houston Book Club meeting tonight, at Linda's house, discussing Winston Churchill's book My Early Life: 1874-1904, an autobiography of his first thirty years. I enjoyed the book, his dry humor seemed to offset the self-aggrandization in my opinion, but others couldn't get past the class system and sense of entitlement of the British imperial era. Our discussions devolved into politics and religion and a brawl ensued. Just kidding, we had a great time!

Cajun's eat seafood everything. Cajun means south of I-10. West Main Pizza in Houma has a seafood pizza, light on sauce, with crab, shrimp, and crawfish, with sausage, onion, bell pepper, and jalapenos. It is really good.
