I'm thinking about moving my website to another host. My configuration options are pretty limited at Ev1Servers.

I'd like to have subdomains. I'd like to have more email forwarding options. My company installed a spam filter, and I can't get any of the email that I've had forwarded to work. The firewall keeps me from accessing any other email from the office. I'd like to have a better interface for site admin.

I've seen other hosting sites that do a better job. And cheaper.

Here's my picture for a seminar I agreed to host Welcome-PIDA-NACE-The Corrosion Society.

I took this picture at my house, I propped the camera up on my desk and set the timer. It took about a dozen tries before I got one this good. You should see the others.

Check out this beautiful site, This is our son, so far, about their six-month old son.

These people have built an amazing and awe-inspiring site. It makes me think that I've wasted my life.

I am in the process of redesigning the layout of the website. I have some more content, but the main goal is to add more zip to the home page. Here's a screen shot of an early draft of the design:

I'm going to try to rewrite the thing from scratch in HTML. You'll notice that the header looks different (oops, you really can't see it on this small shot), that's what I've got in Word now, but it doesn't translate correctly. I also may try to get someone who knows what they're doing to do some layout stuff, I'm not the best right-brain kind of guy.

Today I received the first confirmation that anyone was reading this blog.

I got a call from a friend of mine, Mike, and he said that he had read it to see what was going on.

The funniest thing about Mike's site is where it says "Welcome, you are visitor # 000,003"

It's not a real counter. It's funny because of all the digits. I wanted to steal the idea, but I couldn't bring myself to. I'll have to think of something else.

I guess I should be posting more often, since I have an audience now.

Site of the day: The Chronicles of George. This site is hilarious, but you have to read through a bunch of the pages before you start to appreciate the humor. Very very funny. I read all 45+ pages while I was sitting in a big meeting, trying to keep from LMAO!

The closing on the house is done, everything worked out okay, so I'm a homeowner! Oops, not that kind of homeowner.

Site of the day:
Redneck Neighbor

This site was originally here but he retired the site. Someone else is hosting it now, because it's so funny.

A guy in the class I took last week told me about this site, and I mentioned my site to him, so if you see this, Mack, thanks.

There are a lot of "best-of-the-internet" sites around, but I think the most reliable is Yahoo! Picks. It's got a week's worth of picks, for general interest and also broken down by category, which is cool, and you should be able to find something of interest.

Maybe some day I can put something interesting enough on this site to make the list.

Well, a lot of things have been happening since I last posted. I've been putting together everything I need to buy the house I'm living in. Mortgage, insurance, inspection, surveys, taxes, repair estimates, title seaches, blah blah blah.

The advantages:
Owning a home
Not having to pack and move
Very nice part of town
Good property values

The disadvantages:
The house is too small
A lot more money outlay for no change in lifestyle
More work

But, since I'm 40 now, I guess it's time. Before about 5 years ago I didn't really feel settled down enough, grown-up enough, to buy a house. I wish I had, because property values have gone up so much in that time.
