Happy Birthday, Blog!
Yesterday was the second anniversary of starting this blog. Here is my first trial post. The site has been around a little while longer, I first published a web page sometime around the first of 2003. Take a look at the site history here.
I've got lots of ideas for new material, but I can hardly keep up anymore. Several of the pages are out-of-date, like the Work page and my Bass page. I have been able to keep up with the Books page, mainly because I was able to convert it into a blog as well, and it is much easier to update. I created a blog for the What I'm Reading Now and What I'm Reading For Book Club, and then I move those posts over to the Books blog and it adds them to the Books page. The blogs are incorporated into the pages by server-side includes, commands that pull several files into one when you open the page. That's why the Home page and the Books page have the extension .php instead of .html, so that the server will recognize that there are commands contained in the HTML code that it needs to look for.
I've read a lot about splogging, or spam comments on blogs, but I've been lucky so far, maybe because I don't use blogspot to host my site, or maybe because I don't make the blog public in my profile on blogger. And my Chinese spam problem went away when I got rid of the drew@hevle.com email address (use the one at the bottom of this page, or firstname.lastname@lastname.com, or firstname.lastname@gmail.com, or my work email address, firstname.lastname@enbridge.com. Of course you should replace the word "firstname" with Drew and "lastname" with Hevle.

Christian Cooper/Kelly Parker wedding
My friend Chris is getting married tomorrow, to a lovely woman named Kelly, who I have yet to meet. Since Coop is one of the few people who have confirmed that they have actually visited this site, I thought I would feature him and his bride-to-be today.
This is not him. Neither is this. Not here, either. Nor this one. And this is definitely not him. It's not this actor, or this NFL player, or this blogger.
This isn't the same Kelly, and it's definitely not this dude. It's not this filmaker (sic), this lawyer, this engineer, or this State of Mainer real estate agent.
Congratulations and best wishes, Kelly and Chris. I'll post some pictures after the wedding.
Update: Here's a picture of Kelly and Chris' first dance.

New bass
Check it out. I ordered a new bass, custom made. It's a G&L L-2500 five-string electric bass guitar. The custom part was the color, the music store that carries had an L-2500, but it was the same tobacco sunburst as my Yamaha BB-1200. Here's a picture of my Yamaha:

I didn't want two basses that looked exactly alike, so I ordered it custom from the G&L factory in Fullerton, California. This one is Belaire Green, a rosewood fingerboard, with hand-rubbed gun oil and a glossy finish on the neck. Here's a picture (taken with my cameraphone) of the new bass.

The headstock is finished in the same color as the body, and the fretboard markers have been omitted.

G&L was formed by Leo Fender, who invented the bass guitar, and was responsible for the Fender Precision, Fender Jazz, and Music Man basses.

Quiz of the Day: Are you a loser? (Hint: The answer is yes)
I scored 16 out of 100 (100 is a total loser). Pretty good for a guy that lives in his parent's basement. Click on the figure and try it out.
Late.

New Job
Some of you may not have received my email last month. I started a new job at Enbridge the first of September, taking a couple of weeks off in between. I'm basically doing the same thing, except with more hats since Enbridge is a smaller company than El Paso. It was rough leaving all the great people I worked with for the eight years I was there, but I've got a better opportunity at Enbridge, and everyone at El Paso was so nice about me leaving that it made me feel even worse.
If your emails to drew DOT hevle AT elpaso DOT com have been getting returned, just email me at the address at the bottom of this page (you'll have to take out the obvious stuff from the name, that's so spammers can't harvest the address) or just replace the elpaso DOT com part of my old email with enbridge.com, or gmail.com, or hevle.com. I'll send you all my new contact info. My cell number has changed as well. All the emails get forwarded to the same place, so which one you use really doesn't matter. Hope to hear from you soon.
Late.
